Houzz: Spotlight on Lucy & Company

Lucy and Company

Check out Dilworth's own Lucy & Company spotlighted on today's Houzz!!

Beth Keim's work shines as she spotlights the bedrooms of a clients three daughters. Indeed, it is her bold use of color, "quality furniture" and mix of modern and traditional elements that define Beth's unique style. Many of the unique pieces shown have been individually customized by both Beth and her husband.

While there is no way I could pick a favorite, I am loving her use of a tropical "peachy-orange" grass cloth wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries. But then again, all three delightful rooms are what little girls dream are made of! Craving your own slice of this pie, contact Beth Keim at Lucy and Company at info@lucyandcompany.com.

For all my old school Wilton, Connecticut friends, Beth is a graduate of WHS. . . Go Warriors!

Cheers,

Tay

Finding the Art in Gallery Walls

Hanging a gallery wall is often an enigma that many find too challenging to attempt at home. Up until recently I called upon my friend Collin to help me hang almost every painting in my house. I used her to hang plates in the children's bathroom and again to create a cluster of drawings in the dining room. One wrong strike of the hammer and pulling a nail out of plaster could equal a major disaster, I was paralyzed with fear.

I spent much of last Spring Co-Chairing the Spring Arts Showcase at Dilworth Elementary. Basically, this translates to countless hours hanging thousands of pieces of children's art work. We hung art in halls, over balcony's, on bulletin boards and from the ceiling. I became fearless in my arranging. Free from the educational  constraints of the years spent studying art and of the constant fear of a professors scrutiny, I finally let loose and enjoyed myself. One day towards the end of the school year, I came home and started hanging art work. Old baby pictures of Scott's, portraits of the children, even "Gypsy Girl" received a new home on my  gallery wall. I felt brave.

The great thing about gallery walls is that they free up the rest of your wall space and keep things from feeling to cluttered and spread out. I hope some of these pictures will give you the inspiration to start your own gallery wall.

gallery of gallery walls

Follow the linear lines and you will see that most artwork is hung to form rectangles. The pieces of the puzzle all fit together.

The gallery wall above the fireplace adds height and drama. This "unexpected" display balances  the uniformity of the built in bookcases and completes the backdrop.

Gorgeous gallery walls.

This gallery wall displays a collection of black and white photography without cluttering the other walls in the home.

Hallway gallery walls

Similarly light-colored frames keep this hallway from feeling heavy.

Gallery walls

Analyzing this chart is easy but coming up with your own gallery wall may be more difficult. Using painters tape and pencil marks may help, but don't be afraid. . . most of the holes will be covered up with pretty artwork!

Tay

We Do Family, We Do Love

"In This House" Wall Decor

WE ARE FAMILY AND IT IS GREAT!

Snap shots from our beach vacation 2012

Sadie tuned six and I turned. . .

Cooper learned to swim. . .sort of!

Auntie Toot remembered how to relax.

Sadie loved on her Daddy and Crab Legs at the same time.

Aussie Uncle Brett took a break from kite surfing and chasing sharks with his bare hands,  long enough to  teach Charlie to FLY!

Aunt Minda took charge of Coopie's sweet tooth and showed it whose boss. . .

And I was reminded how much I love these two little hooligans and how much they love me right back.

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and that you feel every bit as loved as you are.

Cheers,

Tay

Love the little saying up top. . . purchase your own "In This House" sign and remind yourself every morning why the ones that make you work the hardest, give you back the most love.

What Really Matters.

REST WITH ME A WHILE. YOU HAVE JOURNEYED UP A STEEP, RUGGED PATH IN RECENT DAYS. THE WAY AHEAD IS SHROUDED IN UNCERTAINTY. LOOK NEITHER BEHIND YOU NOR BEFORE YOU. INSTEAD, FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION ON ME, YOUR CONSTANT COMPANION. TRUST THAT I WILL EQUIP YOU FULLY FOR WHATEVER AWAITS YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY.

I DESIGNED TIME TO BE A PROTECTION FOR YOU, YOU COULDN'T BEAR TO SEE ALL YOUR LIFE AT ONCE. THOUGH I AM UNLIMITED BY TIME, IT IS IN THE PRESENT MOMENT THAT I MEET YOU. REFRESH YOURSELF IN MY COMPANY, BREATHING DEEP DRAUGHTS OF MY PRESENCE. THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF TRUST IS TO ENJOY ME MOMENT BY MOMENT. I AM WITH YOU, WATCHING OVER YOU WHEREVER YOU GO.

Psalm 143:8

Taken from the CaringBridge page of a wonderful and generous man who left his family this morning and whose spirit  most definitely joined God in heaven. Pray for his family who will surely miss him every day of the rest of their lives and give them the strength to live life to the fullest.

Peace,

Taylor

This room is the definition of "Modern Glamour"

Kelly with her boys in her now famous foyer.

Grey - Kelly Wearstler

More "liveable"  than most of her interiors. . .and my personal favorite. This room has all of the essentials of classic modern elegance. . .

Kelly Wearstler

Black glossy ceilings, geometric carpet, Kelly brings Hollywood Regency to most every room she designs. . .

Want a piece of her look? I found these chairs yesterday at Slate Interiors on Central. Black, lacquered and brass. . .These chairs are the real deal!

At $845 for the pair, they are definitely not a steal.

I am however left wondering, Can we put a price on Modern Glamour? Apparently so!

I am a social networking addict. First it was MySpace, then Facebook and Pinterest. Meet my newest obsession Olioboard. Olioboard is a one stop shop (and a designers best friend) for creating concept/ mood boards. Let your mind wander and dream away.

I just spent 20 minutes creating my imaginary clients, imaginary dining room. . . .

Sweet Sadie Lane

Pixie Dust Age 2

Our bug turns 6 years old today and that seems impossible. . .  Impossible that in the flash of a moment, a blip in time and in the second that we layed eyes on her. . . that we were changed. Saved.  Our hearts stamped forever, engraved with eternal love for this child. More emotion than we could absorb, we both cried as we stared into the eyes of our new baby.

We will tell her the story of her birth throughout today, where we were, what we were feeling, how excited we were to finally meet her.  How I went into labor at Dean & Deluca, thirty minutes before we were supposed to go the movies to see Super Man.  As is an evident genetic superhero obsessive  trait, Scotty REALLY wanted to go. . .so we went and by the end of the movie the contractions were 8 minutes apart. Oh what an ordeal it was, the 4th of July fireworks were in South Park  and we were re-directed three times. . .

Last night, as I got to this part of the story, she stopped and said "What about Cooper?" Well, we told her. . ."Cooper wasnt even a thought in our mind or a peanut in my tummy." My answer must have suited her  because she literally dropped what she was doing and jumped into my arms. She held on for what seamed like forever, I hoped the moment would never end.

Sadie gets to have her own story, it's starts with mine but it ends with hers. I am lucky enough to get to edit it for just a while and then she will be grown and be her own writer and publisher.

It is one story that I cannot wait to read. . .

Much Love For Today,

Tay
